Springtime on Florida’s Forgotten Coast is filled with plenty of activities to keep island visitors and residents entertained…even your furry friends! The following is a list of upcoming events that you won’t want to miss:
February 18th 3:30-6:30 Snowbird Luau Block Party
Calling all snowbirds (and everyone else)! A luau block party will be held between The Beach Pit and Doc Myers’. The event kicks off at 3:30 with ticket holders perusing the island businesses for beverages and appetizers until 4:30, an event map is available when purchasing tickets. Dinner will be served from 4:30-6:30. Luau goers will enjoy live music, delicious “luau fare” and a chance to win raffle prizes. Tickets are on sale now for $15 per person and are available at Sometimes It’s Hotter, The Beach Pit, and Island Dog. Tickets will also be available at the event.
February 22nd 11:00-4:00 Mardi Gras Barkus Parade
Come down to Riverfront Park in Apalachicola to celebrate all the excitement of Mardi Gras with your four-legged pal. The festivities include live music, arts and crafts, vendors, local food and drinks, and of course, a dog parade! Profits from the 10th annual parade will be donated to aid the care of animals in need in surrounding areas.
March 5th-7th St. George Island Regional Charity Chili Cook-off & Auction
This is guaranteed fun for the whole family and a can’t miss event! The weekend includes a golf tournament, a silent auction, a 5K Red Pepper Run, retail specials, numerous food options, and live music. The SGI Chili Cook-off is the ultimate fundraising event for the St. George Island Volunteer Fire Department. Come sample the area’s best chili recipes and support the fire department!
March 21st Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department Charity Rib Cook-off
Come hungry and bring your friends and family! The event features live music, a silent auction, activities for the kids, and some of the best BBQ around! The cook-off supports the Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department and takes place at the Eastpoint Fire House.
April 4th 11:00-6:00 Apalachicola Art and Wine Walk
If you are an art or wine lover this day is for you! There will be various forms of art displayed throughout scenic and historical downtown Apalachicola. Artists and musicians will be exhibiting, selling, and demonstrating their talented work throughout the afternoon. Later in the evening the entertainment continues with wine tasting and local chefs preparing dishes paired with specially selected wines.
April 8th 8:00-10:00 Full Moon Lighthouse Climb & Movie Night
Visitors can climb to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast, the Crooked River Lighthouse in Carrabelle, Florida. At the top climbers will enjoy vastly extensive and breathtaking views under the glow of the rising moon. “Secret of Roan Inish” will be featured at movie night, a family friendly movie for everyone to enjoy. Don’t forget to visit the lighthouse museum and gift shop. There will also be a firepit and s’mores. All participants must be 44 at least inches tall. The cost is $8.00.
April 18th 1:00-4:00 SGI Brewfest
The SGI Brewfest at Paddy’s Raw Bar and Journeys of St. George Island is a beer tasting festival that benefits the Franklin County Humane Society. This year’s event will be filled with delicious craft beers and many furry friends. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the door – this event sells out so be sure to secure your ticket ahead of time! Visit www.SGIbrewfest.com for ticket options. The event is 21+ only.
April 18th 10:00-4:00 Apalachicola Classic Boat and Car Show
Take a step back in time! The classic boats and cars will be on display in Riverfront Park in Apalachicola. Local guides will be available for tours of the picturesque waterfront and other surrounding coastal areas. There will also be arts and crafts on display featuring nautical themes and goods from local artisans.
Reoccurring Events
Apalachicola Farmer’s Market
On the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month, from 9:00-1:00 at Mill Pond Pavilion in Apalachicola. Find local seafood, produce, pastries, bread, honey, and other goods available for purchase.
Carrabelle Farmer’s Market
Vendors from the community will offer locally made goods, veggies, baked goods, art, and more for sale. It is held the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 9:00-1:00 at the Crooked River Lighthouse.
Sometimes It’s Hotter Circle of Friends
Come out to Sometimes It’s Hotter on St. George Island for live music, complimentary appetizers, drinks, and fun. All ages and dogs are welcome! Circle of Friends is held on Thursdays starting at 6:00.
